The Year Ahead: 2026 Roadmap
New scenarios. New features. New ways to catch killers. Here is where BACKSTABBERS sails next.
With the new year properly underway, we wanted to share where BACKSTABBERS is heading. Consider this your investigative briefing for the months ahead.
Q1 2026: The Titanic and Beyond
The Murder on the Titanic scenario launches within weeks. This proves our concept: multiple settings, each with unique atmosphere and challenges, all powered by the same AI investigation engine.
Following Titanic, we begin development on our third scenario. We are not ready to announce the setting yet, but think: golden age. Hollywood. Secrets worth killing for.
Q2 2026: Multiplayer Investigation
This one has been requested since day one. We hear you.
Cooperative multiplayer lets two detectives work the same case together. Share discoveries. Divide interrogations. Debate theories. Ultimately agree on who to accuse.
Competitive multiplayer pits detectives against each other. Same case. Same suspects. Same clues. First to catch the killer wins.
Both modes require significant engineering work, but we are committed to delivering them this year.
Q3 2026: Mobile Apps
While BACKSTABBERS works on mobile browsers, dedicated apps provide a better experience. Offline play. Push notifications when new scenarios drop. Optimised performance for your specific device.
iOS and Android apps are in active development. We expect beta testing to begin mid-year.
Q4 2026: The Big Expansion
Without revealing too much, we are working on a substantially larger scenario that spans multiple connected locations. Think less single manor, more entire village with dark secrets.
This requires new technology for managing larger investigation spaces while keeping cases solvable in reasonable timeframes. Early experiments are promising.
Ongoing Improvements
Throughout the year, expect continuous refinements:
- Smarter AI responses that better understand complex questions
- More nuanced suspect personalities with deeper backstories
- Additional clue types and investigation mechanics
- Improved hint systems for when cases go cold
- Regular difficulty balancing based on solve rate data
Community Input Welcome
We read every piece of feedback. The outside contacts feature? Suggested by players. The case file improvements? Requested repeatedly in support emails. Difficulty adjustments? Driven entirely by community data.
Keep telling us what works and what frustrates you. This roadmap remains flexible based on what actually matters to the people playing.
The future holds many mysteries. We intend to solve them together.
